Expedition Land Rover

Development

28th November - the amphibious trials on Coniston went completely according to plan and all the system has been ticked off with only the most minor of adjustment.

High wind and torrential rain transformed the usually tranquil waters to something more akin to the North Sea.

Dan and I had the opportunity to try on our new custom made Shark suits, life jackets and Air pocket plus rebreather. We wore the suits all afternoon; remaining completely dry and they were comfortable enough for us to keep on during the dismantling and re-loading of the Land Rover - a resounding success.

30th November - All the final preparations have been made on the Land Rover and this week we are going to test the tracks around the farm while LRO are doing a photo shoot.

20th March 2007 - the new Land Rover 110 pickup was delivered to Stratstones of Doncaster where we collected it. Steve is taking it over to Protection and Performance this week so that they can start the process of amphibious and tracked conversion.

10th June 2007 - The Land Rover is in the process of having an external roll cage, escape hatch and insulation added. The oil tank moved into the pickup back, addition of hydraulics for operating the flotation gear, heavy duty OME shock absorbers, engine heater and locking diffs. When that work is complete Dan will make the new outriggers which hold the flotation tubes.

15th August - We took the Land Rover to Billing 07 and it was on display on Protection and Performance stand. The show was very wet heavy rain on Friday and Saturday, then sunny Sunday.

20th June 2007 - Modifications have been put on hold while we get the land Rover through its SVA test in order to register it in the U.K It was originally bought as "rest of world spec" to be exported however as we are not able to export it by the required date we have to pay the vat and register it. This has not been as difficult as we imagined.

The test is on Friday 22nd June in Newcastle.

6th September - Steve collected the floats from Hull last week. The Land Rover is coming on at Dan's and once it is ready we can test the tracks. We have been sourcing sponsors and last week Cooper Tires agreed to give us a set of tyres in return for news coverage.

7th September - Progress is being made on the Land Rover and we are hoping it will be completed in October. Sponsors are continuing to come on board and we update the sponsors page accordingly. Permits are currently being obtained in Russia and we have a date of 1st February for reaching the Russian border which means leaving the U.K mid January 2008.

20th October The LandRover was finished this week and collected today from Protection and Performance. It  is now at the farm and Steve is working on getting it ready for an amphibious trial at Coniston.

9th July 2007 - The Land Rover failed its first SVA test due to its brakes not complying. Steve took it back two weeks later and it passed. Since then it has been at Dan's having the modifications done on it. We are busy getting ready for Billing where the Land Rover will be on display at Protection and Performance.
